South of Wooden Wheel Lodge

Joe’s sons showed me the trail south of the Wooden Wheel Lodge and left me there to paint my way back. It was a great day. Even though it sprinkled and then rained, the trees gave just enough protection. I could hear something out in the water, it sounded large, but I never saw it as I painted this piece. Gouache on watercolor paper, 4 by 6 inches.

Fog over Rockaway

The fog lasted for quite a while over the surf at Rockaway Beach, OR. Here’s my 4×6 inch Plein air gouache study of it, with a little sand stuck to the left edge of the painting. It was heaven to have the boys playing in the sand nearby and Jackie sitting with me while I painted this. Gouache on watercolor paper, 4 by 6 inches.

Painting of cows resting in the shade on a hot August day

August Pasture

On a melt-your-face hot kinda day, I took my boys on a hike with the intent that we would make it to Evel Knievel’s Snake River Canyon jump site. It was too hot. We didn’t make it, but as we sat in the shade for a minute to rest and drink water, we saw these other poor creatures. We felt cooked, can’t imagine how they felt. In a private collection. Gouache on watercolor paper, 5 by 7 inches.
